Hot Smoked Wild Sable Fish by Blue Ocean Smoke House

. . . made a very nice snack this afternoon. Ingredient list: hickory & applewood smoked wild blackcod, sea salt, dark brown sugar. This piece was 4.25 ounces for $7.25. On the salty side but the buttery texture and balance of smoke with the faintest sweetness are lovely.

Blue Ocean Smoke House of Half Moon Bay has a booth at the Sunday morning farmers market at Fort Mason in San Francisco. I'd always heard good things about this smokehouse but had not made the trip to HMB. I was delighted to find them in SF with a wide variety of product closer to home.

Absolutely one of my favourites-smoked black cod. Use to buy it at a shop in Walnut Creek near Nordy's-but it closed years ago. They were out of Washington, and many years before that a restaurant in Sunnyvale (?) used to serve it hot along with potatoes-amazing as I recall.

Smoked Black Cod is a whole lot more common in WA. Love the stuff. HMB is a hike to go for fish.

I have seen smoked wild salmon from them at Monterey Fish Market in Berkeley.

They're at Alemany on Saturdays too.
