Good Ceviche Downtown?

h
hungryinny Mar 3, 2011 10:00 AM

Looking for good ceviche anywhere south of 23rd street other than desnuda because I've been there a bunch. Price range - a little less expensive than Nobu. Let me know if anyone has any good recommendations.

Does anyone have an absolute favorite ceviche OR crudo in the 5 boroughs? Less pricey/ sustainably-fished preferred. Thanks!

+1 for Desnuda. Can't wait for their Cevicheria to open in Bklyn!

Yes, I had forgotten about that one. Had it recently and it is excellent.

We just tried Yerba Buena Perry last night for the first time. Everything was delicious (calamari, short ribs, suckling pig, dulce de leche crepe), but the standout for me was the ceviche of rib eye and sea urchin. This was not only the most unusual ceviche I have ever had, it was without question the best.

Other than Desnuda, says the OP right there in the OP.

I haven't been yet but Desnuda is on my short list because I understand the cerviche is very good.

Nuela's ceviche was way too tart. We reviewed it.

Way too tart? Others would disagree. I've had several of their ceviches and they were utterly delicious.

I've had the lobster/shrimp/octopus combination, the toro, and the sea urchin. Unfortunately, the current menu shows fewer choices, and I no longer see the toro and sea urchin.

Would strongly recommend Nuela http://www.nuelany.com/restaurant.php on 24th street.
About 15 different ceviches, all really good, and half, quarter, or whole suckling pigs at all times. Yum.

Quick note - Nuela is now dead, sadly. Some guy who answered the phone just now informs me that they're reopening in a couple weeks (mid June 2012) as Raymi; the Nuela team is no longer involved. More info:
