Meeting friends for dinner tonight-need to be west mid 40's if possible, They are not adventurous eaters and money is an issue. Italian or American/bistro would be great . Any help would be much appreciated.

  1. Would Five Napkin Burger work? http://www.menupages.com/restaurants/...

There is also always Carmine's, which I don't personally think has much Chow credibility, but does have a loyal following in some circles. Portions are served family sized and massive, so if you have four or five people, it works out to be very little money / person. http://www.menupages.com/restaurants/...

    1. Puttanesca is a decent Italian, traditional, in the mid 50s on 9th. I've heard good things about Nizza too, but haven't tried it myself - that's in the right place though at I think 44th on 9th ave.

Also second 5 Napkin Burger for american. Yum.

        1. Don't know if this is too late, but Empanada Mama. Very cheap, good atmosphere and enough things to satisfy the non-adventurous sort.

I've only been to Empanada Mama twice, but both times I felt that the food was way too greasy.

I like Delta Grill for NOLA style food and El Deportivo for puerto rican food.
