Looking for a restaurant in NYC making its own seitan good enough to write an article about it

Jonas Eriksson Mar 3, 2011 05:57 AM

Hi all,

My name is Jonas Eriksson and I am a Swedish journalist going to NYC in April to write a few articles. One of those is about vegetarian food in NYC and I am looking for a restaurant that makes its own seitan and one that's good at it.

As I've never been in NYC I was hoping the friendly Chowhound gang could help me find such a restaurant. I'm googleing away as I write this but any help from real people is much appreciated!

Best regards,
- Jonas

Candle 79! Both the seitan picatta and the seitan chimichurri are amazing. Some of the best seitan I have ever had.

I think the O.P. means a restaurant which makes the actual seitan rather than just seitan dishes. I am not sure if anywhere does (or why it would be considered important that they do).

I think Angelica's Kitchen in EV makes their own seitan. Great place although i've only been once

Red Bamboo has good food and an extensive vegan menu...not sure if they make their own seitan but I'm sure you could call or email them. In fact I would just look up vegan restaurants in NYC and inquire.

The seitan scallopini at John's of 12th Street is amazing and is house-made.
