Turning Fab Forty!!!
Where to go!????
I am looking, ideally for a great dinner place for about 8 people or so. Good food is KEY, ambience as well.....budget up to $100/person....it would be great if it could also be a loungy type restaurant that would have some great funky music..... so that after dinner, I can invite everyone else to join us, in a bar like environment.....no line ups or cover to get in mandatory....too old for that S---!!! Does such a place exist? Help.

I like the Drake's dining room for birthday parties. The Drake's pastry chef will do special orders for a birthday desserts, if arranged in advance.
You might also want to consider Boehmer, Lee Lounge (recent thread http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/7682... ) and Caren's Wine Bar (they have a dinner menu, in addition to their cheese & charcuterie).
I've never been, but Coquine might be another place to consider. I understand that it's lively later at night, and a good spot for drinks near Yonge & Eg, but the reviews of the food have been mixed.
Lolita's Lust is a place without cover and line-ups that becomes more bar-like as the night goes on. A DJ sets up around 11pm most weekends. I find Lolita's too loud late at night, and the food mostly mediocre, but it is the type of place where people can show up for drinks after dinner and almost always find a seat. They also have the Chinchilla Lounge upstairs, which can be reserved if you wanted a private, bar-like space for a larger group.

The Drake is a perfect suggestion for you. Origin would be second, but it's pretty much for eating only - and the food is better than at the Drake. The Drake sometimes charges cover ($5) on certain days, but I'm certain you can call them and arrange to allow your additional guests without charging them cover. They also have a heated patio, and play pretty funky music on most nights. Service in the restaurant is also pretty attentive. I organize a Christmas party there every year (Prices reasonable, good food, good atmosphere, cigar smoking patio).
Right across from the Drake is a place called the Beaconsfield. It has pretty good food and there is no cover - but a much darker atmosphere.
