stinky cheese

i'm looking for a german-european deli in the LA area that offers Bierkase, a foil-wrapped, strong smelling cheese from Germany. It's not as strong as limburger, but more so than tilsit or port salut. It doesn't seem to be as available as it use to. Yes, it's strong, but very rich tasting, and goes great when mixed with german cold cuts in sandwiches or melted on a hot dog. Any ideas for a source?

  1. Here are some places to check with (I'm not sure if any of the will have it or not, but at least this will give you a starting point): http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/764911

You could also check with places like the Cheese Store of Beverly Hills (and others like it) or Wally's in Westwood. If worst (wurst?) comes to worst then: http://www.igourmet.com/shoppe/prodvi...

thank you, Servorg. German Cold Cuts International on Topanga Cyn. in Woodland Hills carries Bierkase and several other redolent cheeses. Danke Schoen.

      2. You could also try calling the Alpine Village market in Torrance.

        1. Not that this helps you, but Bierkase used to be commonly found at supers like Von's. I remember stocking this when I worked in the deli/liquor depts back in the day. I'm guessing changing demographics has dried up the number of sources...
