I've driven by a few times at lunch time and there is a new restaurant in front of Homma's Brown Rice Sushi and a few doors down from the Anatolian Kitchen = sign just says Birch - looks busy - a little upscale
Anyone know what's going on?

Bistro Elan is now closed & Birch Street is open for lunch and dinner with a very similar menu (apparently they have the same chef, owners and staff). They had a wonderful dungeness crab salad at Bistro Elan that is carried over to the new menu, as well as their scallops which were always cooked perfectly and are just as good at Birch Street. Prices seem very comparable to Bistro Elan or even a couple bucks lower (our entrees were in the low-mid $20s). Definitely worth a visit if you liked Elan.

I called on Friday night and the recording still didn't have a date for when they would start serving dinner, but I imagine it will be fairly soon after Bistro Elan closes on July 2?

The website now says that Birch St will open July 15 for lunch and dinner, and it will accept reservations for dinner.

I've also heard a rumor that Baume will be closing at the end of summer --- anyone else know?

I hadn't heard of Baume closing. Any more info there?

I heard from regular at Bistro Elan that Elan will be closing after July 2. After that the plan is to serve dinner too at Birch St.

This restaurant is from the same people as Bistro Elan on California Ave., which is one of my favorites. It may be open for lunch only -- I'm not sure about any details.

Thanks for that lead - I found this on the Bistro Elan site
            http://www.bistroelan.com/Bistro_Elan...

Looks kinda of pricey - $4.25 for side of fries?
Hotdog at $7.50 and you have to shell out 50 cents more to just get pickle with it - yikes...

I just went and had exactly that - hot dog and fries, plus a side of aioli (no pickle). It was a very good hot dog, but yes, pricey at $7.50 since it's just a hot dog and bun with ketchup and mustard. The fries were the lightly cooked, sort of french style fries - very good with the aioli, but again, pricey. My friend had the spaghetti, which smelled good. Service was excellent, but I would only go back if the prices were $1-$2 lower. I guess Bistro Elan is not doing lunch any more?
