Washtenaw Mexican—good news, bad news - Suburban Detroit

The good news: La Casita on Washtenaw has been humming along and has recently been featuring tamales regularly. You can order them in advance by the dozen, and they're good. Until now there haven't been many places to get good Mexican-style tamales near Ann Arbor, although I guess La Fiesta Mexicana in Ypsi sometimes had them.

The bad news: Taquería Fiesta on Packard appears to be closed. There's a sign on the door saying they're on vacation with no dates on it, and no one's been there for over a month. I preferred La Casita, but I'm surprised—Taquería Fiesta seemed to be doing good business.

Ugh, that sucks about Taqueria Fiesta. One less good Mexican option around here. It's really a shame that A2 doesn't really have a really good taqueria option. Seems kinda odd that Ypsi beats the pants off of it when it comes to Mexican food.

It's not when you consider that more mexicanos are concentrated in Ypsi.

In the good news category: Tracklements is featuring Mexican dishes to go on Sundays. Enchiladas, arroz, mole, etc. The pozole--veryvery good!! Bien rico!

I haven't been there in a while (must go back soon!) but I thought La Fiesta Mexicana had tamales as a permanent menu item, although the choice of filling sometimes varied...

So disappointed about Taqueria Fiesta on Packard. It seems like I was just there for delicious tamales, but now that I think about it, it might have been in December. Dang.
