Dinner before Movie Bloor Cinema

  • 9

HELP! Can anyone recommend a place to eat a decent meal before a movie close to Bloor and Bathurst? A bunch of us go once a month to watch Docs and struggle to find anything good. Sadly we tried Paupers Pub, which was bad even for pub food. Eating with one vegi friend.

Thanks

  1. Insomnia located just across the street is where we usually go before the Bloor. I've always enjoyed my meals there and the staff are really great. There will be plenty of options for your veg friend as well. It gets very busy on the weekends so if you're on a tight time schedule with a movie it's probably a good idea to make a reservation.

      +1 for Insomnia.
It's right across the street, and you can't really go wrong with anything on the menu.

Ask if they still have the dinner and the movie special. Can't remember how much it was, but they used to have that a few years back.

We just went to an earlier movie on Sunday followed by dinner at Insomnia. Your Bloor ticket stub works as a buy one get one entree coupon.

While I've always enjoyed the food, the dinner specials in the last few months have been really great. We had a roasted carrot soup from the specials menu that was fantastic. Our server mentioned there'd been some changes in the kitchen and things have clearly gone up a notch.

Wow, that's a really good deal.
I'll have to take my own advice and go back soon. Haven't been there in awhile unfortunately.

    2. There is also Serra, which is an old reliable standby for me in that area. Modern Italian. Very good pastas and tasty pizzas. Never had a bad meal.

      1. For something more casual, there's a great sandwich shop to the west between Markham and Palmerston on Bloor called Sky Blue Sky Sandwiches. I've been several times and have really enjoyed the soups and sandwiches there, and all menu items are incredibly low-priced! The bread and soups are home-made, and the sandwiches are named after Wilco songs (as is the restaurant!). Although some CH'ers have given this place a thumbs-down, I must say that my experiences have been very positive. The only thing is that if you're catching a show at the Bloor Cinema, I will warn you that service is not exactly fast (ie., it's not fast-food)!

        1. Thanks so much everyone! I think we will end up trying all three. Gonna try Serra this week!

          1. Paupers is awful

We always enjoy our food at The Victory Cafe on Markham just south of Bloor
