Pierogi?

I will be in New York in a couple of weeks and I'm really wanting pierogi. I've done some searches through the Chowhound boards, but haven't come across any specific recommendations. Neighborhood doesn't matter -- what are the places you like?

Hello All -- Thank you for the recommendations! Due to our schedule we were not able to get out of Manhattan so we went to Veselka. To correct foodperestroika, Veselka does serve alcohol -- beer and wine. The pierogi were satisfying & our entire dinner was cheap. It was crazy busy, of course.

Hopefully, my schedule for future trips will allow me to explore Greenpoint pierogi. Thanks for the recommendations!

And for your next trip, I'm told there's a second Veselka in the Union Square area. With real drinks.

The best pierogi in Greenpoint is at Relax, a tiny hole in the wall on Newell Street in Greenpoint.

I've been looking into the same thing, ragna, and so far came up with two: Karczma in Greenpoint, Brooklyn and Veselka in the East Village in Manhattan. Both come highly recommended but I've tried neither yet.

Veselka isn't really all that good (and they don't serve alcohol, which is half the pleasure of eating pierogi in my opinion). Karczma has fried potato and meat pierogi that are pretty well executed.

The saurkraut onion ones at Karczma are absolutly the best. Try the pierogi sampler to get all of them. YUM
