  1. I'm not surprised to hear it but it is a bit sad (only because my husband proposed after our first dinner at Lumiere when Feenie was at the helm). Lumiere, West, and C used to be the places everyone wanted to dine at, especially for special occasions. But all 3 of these restaurants only catered to people spending exorbitant amounts of cash. I don't think Lumiere ever recovered Feenie's exit and the recession because of all the great new places that opened up that were much more reasonable in price for quality ingredients and service. This should serve as a wake up call to some of these other establishments that are still coasting on their old reputations.....

Whoa, missed the Ides of March by a day !

But why db Moderne ? I'm prolly one of the minority who have not been there yet (always looking for that special occasion/reason) to justify going), now I won't have that chance.

For those that care, Dale McKay's going to be on Top Chef Canada, from the looks of it.

        2. I wonder if Feenie is smiling from the Cactus Club?

            Wow....Karma is quick these days....!

            1. re: Pollo

My guess is that if Cactus Club doesn't end up in either of those spots (a bit tight spacewise) they'll end up across the street when it's developed-that hood is ripe for one.

It's about the right size for a Tim Horton's.

                1. re: fmed

Oooooh, a double-double to go with a macaron from next door.

                  1. re: fmed

There's a Timmy Ho's just a few blocks further west, albeit a small one. It would be sad to see a chain go in where either of these two restos were...

                    1. re: grayelf

I totally agree, but as someone pointed out, the view of White Spot isn't exactly conducive to fine-dining.

Hmmm what would be a good thing for the 'hood?

                      1. re: waver

                        A superlative BBQ joint.

Or another outlet of Guu :-)

Or a 2nd Dona Cata or La Taqueria :-D

                        1. re: waver

I thought the neighbourhood well supported Feenie's when it was around. I remember it always being busy. DB is really great food but the price point was higher... which made it less of a casual neighbourhood place. I would love to see a place like Feenie's go back in there. Fingers crossed it won't be CC!

Flip side of adding another Timmy's is it can provide some triage treatment .......

                          [runs out door fast]

                            Good one LR!

How about kick-ass pizza joint? Or a second outlet of Bella Gelateria.

One thing we're not considering here in the 'tone' of that development.

I doubt The People Upstairs would go for a low brow joint soiling their building.

                              1. re: Quattrociocchi

We'd need both, right ? Bella Gelateria is for dessert, so we need the main course purveyor :-)

Well you guys at least have Nats New York Pizzeria, which I consider pretty dang good.

                  2. Tried to make a reso. Seems like they are all booked up till their last day, Sunday.

                    1. I have a $50 gift card for these places that I won't be able to use before they close. If anyone wants it, and can come get it (I'm in Richmond), it's yours. Email jamesmum@yahoo.com

Is Feenie still with Cactus Club?

Lumiere used to be one amazing, amazing restaurant. We used to live a couple of blocks from there and used to walk down and eat there all the time. We'd eat at the bar. Back in the day when it was one of the first places we saw on the west coast that was doing artisanal cocktails. They made a mean Sazerac.

And every once in a while we'd do Feenie's caviar flight. Amazing.
Never went back after he left.

Sometimes I wonder if there are any establishments in GVRD that have been able to consistently maintain a gold-standard of quality for years on end, if not decades. Perhaps Le Gavroche and The William Tell ?
