Best places to eat near TD Garden???

We are headed to Boston for the first time and would like some suggestions on where to eat. It is just my husband and myself. Looking foir suggestions for a casual dinner as well as more of an upscale place. Would be open to any type of cuisine accept for chinese or india. Love seafood, steak, french, etc.

In the direct vicinity of the Garden I think Porter's has the best bar-type food and a comfortable atmosphere and I'll second Ducali for pizza and beer. Although, I haven't eaten at North Star since it changed over. There was a time when Johnnies on the Side was promising but it sucks now.

I have to second the choice of Neptune Oyster. If you go on a weekend night, go early or leave your name and number with the hostess and go for a walk. Great dinner but with a price tag to match.

For a cheaper meal, near the TD Garden, I'd suggest Ducali. They have great appetizers (one of the best calamari I've had in Boston) and wonderful pizzas. I've found that Nebo tries too hard with their vibe and fails with the food.

Nebo may fail to hit the mark it's shooting at, but it's not bad. Agreed that you're better off at Ducali, but I've had some decent pizzas and pasta there in the past.

In the North End, Neptune (small, no reservations, go early) is generally rated one of the top seafood restaurants in Boston. A search on this board will turn up lots of posts. I also like Massimino's, a nice little traditional Italian place that's an easy walk to the Garden.

Any reason it has to be near TD Garden? That area is pretty thin on good dining-out options, unless you're willing to hike a little (ten or fifteen minute walk) to the North End.
