Fish Sandwich

Who makes a really good fish sandwich?

Looking for a whole fillet, not a breaded, deep fried fish cutlet. If I wanted that, I'd just go to McDonald's and get the Filet-O-Fish.

WoodSpoon makes a good tilapia fish sandwich, as does Four Cafe using mahi mahi.

That's sort of the kind of fish sandwich I'm looking for.

Any suggestions?

Can be any kind of fish. Ahi, swordfish, halibut, catfish, etc.

  1. i'm sure you've seen these old threads, but just in case...

it's been a looong time, but i vaguely recall thinking the Cajun fish sandwich at the Firehouse in Venice wasn't bad.

ooh, and i just remembered that Babalu in SM does a grilled ahi sandwich. other places (though you must already know because you contributed to the thread!):

      Thanks, I did.

But alot of those are a bit dated. Central Park no longer makes one and now I wish Wolfe Burgers didn't either.

i figured - just lookin' out for ya. Houston's (and Hillstone) still has one on the menu though i have no idea if it's worth eating.

Yes, it is a good sandwich at Houston's and Hillstone, Fresh fish Grilled or pan-fried fillet with leaf lettuce, red onion and Chef’s dressing.

    2. Portillo's Buena Park
Grilled yellow-fin tuna filet sandwich or deep fried halibut filet sandwich both $4.79.

        Portillo's grilled yellow-fin tuna sandwich. $4.99 now.

      2. Houston's has a good fish sandwich.

        1. I believe 26 Beach Restaurant has a red snapper filet but it is breaded and fried. I know sometimes they have an Ahi Tuna sandwich as a special, not on the menu all the time, I had the one with tarter sauce, they also offer a dijon one.

The Fish Grill. 4 locations. Grilled fish fillet on a bun with onion, tomato and shredded cabbage and tartar sauce. Served with your choice of two sides: cole slaw, baked potato. Israeli salad, green salad, rice or fries. You can have it grilled or breaded and fried. It's so, so good.

One more vote for the Fish Grill. I'm surprised it's not mentioned more. I've only been to the one on Beverly, but have been going there for years. Awesome, rich, fresh grilled sandwich. They are also fairly packed (expect to order and wait) during meals hours which is always a good sign if you can deal with the wait.

I've seen it on the menu and you are right.

              2. The "you buy, we fry" fish stores, are an option. You can choose what kind of fish you want. Those stores have red snapper, catfish, whiting, etc.

In Carson I like Family Fish Market, behind R & R Soul Food. I am pretty sure they have a fish sandwich.

                1. I haven't had it but, remember seeing one on Cook's Tortas menu.

                  1. The Fish King in Glendale offers several types of fish sandwiches. They are filets, but breaded with panko and fried. Very tasty, but not broiled.
Fish-in-the-Village is a kosher fish market/cafe on Burbank just east of Whitsett. They offer either grilled or fried fish sandwiches. Very nice people and very fresh fish.
