Green chiles in YYC?

nonlinear Feb 26, 2011 07:32 AM

I know this is a longshot, but does anyone know where I can find fresh New Mexican green chiles in calgary? Poblanos or canned green chiles *might* make for an OK sub, but i'd really like to get my hands on real ones.

Are New Mexican Chiles the same as Anaheims? I've seen some charts that refer to them as interchangeable. I know I've seen long pale green peppers - maybe at the Walmart Supercentre of all places? iirc from what I've read they're a Fall crop maybe they're out of season?

Sorry I have more questions than answers...good luck & let us know if/when you find them.

They had a gorgeous selection of chiles at the Edgemont Superstore this past weekend, with what looked like Anaheims to me. Sometimes they are not labelled correctly. Picked up some beautiful fresh (for a change) Poblanos. I find I have the most luck with Superstore, but even then, it's hit and miss.

What's the difference between an NM green chile and a Hatch chile?

fwiw I spotted Anaheim chiles here in our Safeway on Thursday - and if they made it here they're bound to be in Calgary maybe call whichever one you're closest to?
