  1. I was told on our recent trip that Stinky's is now part of a "restaurant group" and this may explain why our dinner there in 2010 was so poor, after such wonderful meals there the prior two years.

Can't speak to George's - but was very disappointed with Gravel Road (the locals rave about them). Check out sowal.com for locals talk.

The buzz right now is on the re-opening of Nick's on the Beach, which we missed by *that* much. Also, Sandor is the new exec chef at Santa Rosa Beach Club, which should be amazing when they reopen in early March (missed them too!). Both are bit west of where you are targeting, but should well worth driving through Seaside for.

Also - a bit further west - Louis Louis keeps rocking it. Owned by the same family that has Red Bar - it has it's own funky groove and delicious food and terrific service.

Nick's on the Beach, Blue Mountain Beach, 2210 West County Highway 30A, Blue Mountain Beach, Florida 32459, Website: http://www.nicksseafoodrestaurant.com/, but I don't know if it's been updated to reflect the opening of the new restaurant.

As for Louis Louis - it is super ecclectic, but not fancy at all. No credit cards, but they'll take a personal check (or use the ATM) - this allows them to serve real food at very fair prices. A huge hunk of grouper with amazing sides was $24. The first photo was my dish, the second, my husband's (both were grouper, prepared differently). It is probably my favorite SOWAL restaurant right now.

Another possibility for casual and inexpensive eats is Shoo Mama's, which is close to Louis Louis and features fresh fish and seafood. Also, if you are looking for non-fish/seafood casual eats - the sandwich counter at El Mercadito (next to Shoo Mamas) is authentic and awesome.
