per EaterLA

According to a neighboring business, Atwater Village's Viet Noodle Bar shuttered about a week ago. Eater called the restaurant on several occasions spaced out over a few days for some type of confirmation, but each time the phone just rings and rings. No answer. [EaterWire]

The restaurant re-opened on Wednesday, but reports on the Atwater Village message board and some Yelp reviews suspect it's under new management. I walked by this week and gone are the communal tables. I haven't been myself since they've reopened so I can't comment on any differences in food or management.

We tried to go on Wed night, and the tables had been re-arranged. There was a table full of friendly diners who waved us away... they had been waiting over an hour for their dinner. Other diners had come in, sat down, waited, and left without food.

We gave up without waiting and went somewhere else.

You weren't missing much. I was underwhelmed when I went there.

Don't agree with that. Service is questionable, but the food is good IMO.

I haven't had much luck with the beard and ironic t-shirt vietnamese places. Believe me, I would love to find a good place west of the 5. I've found that that most of those places can't 'bring the funk'. When I eat vietnamese, I want the funk.

Agreed, no funk, plenty of beards.
It's creative and fresh though, which I value over funk and will overlook beards and ironic vestiments because of.

I can sometimes overlook beards (but not Trucker Hats), but 'the funk' is essential. Especially the fish sauce or fermented shrimp. To me, a day without fish sauce is like a day without sunshine.

Now let's go eat some Bun Cha Hanoi!

to this vietnamese guy, the only thing I liked @ VNB was the bean curd dessert and the soy milk.

The only thing I liked was walking over to Cognoscenti Coffee across the street. Won't miss it.

LA Weekly reports same ownership, just a brief closure for Spring cleaning:

Just have a dinner at Viet Noodle Bar today. The food are still the same as usual. The same whole crews still there. Yes, they did arrange the furniture and new decoration in the front. Glad that my PhoGa and Turmeric Fish Noodle still there.
