New La Jolla food truck: Mangia, Mangia!

bizzwriter Feb 24, 2011 01:57 PM

Appears that a former chef and waiter from my beloved but defunct Trattoria Acqua are going to start an Italian food truck venture in La Jolla. They have picked an out-of-they-way initial location on Cave Street, but I for one hope it catches on and does well. Guess they don't have much choice -- anyplace else would have the local residents and restaurants howling (which they will probably do anyway).

    Great $7 lunch! =)

I had their lasagna, just the way I like it with two pieces of garlic bread. Hope to see more Italian food trucks in the future!

Interesting, good to see them willing to try something different. They had some interesting dishes but there was always a lot of competition in that area.

Happy to see a food truck in downtown LJ and I will certainly stop by!

I've tried a few of their dishes and I have to say I'm a fan. Big fan. The food was freaking amazing. Actually can't wait to try them again.

Heard good things about the salmon lasagna at the food truck event last night. BTW bizzwriter, I ran into him at the Whaling Bar last night and they will be in the Ace Parking lot across the street from 1250 Cave Street in LJ on Tuesday for lunch if you want to check them out. It is across the street and a hop and skip away from the big, pink Prudential building at the corner of Prospect and Cave.

I can also recommend the asparagus lasagna. to die for.
They also have a dessert that is like a lasagna as well, with nutella.... I shared it with 2 other people and we all agreed it was pretty amazing.

The parking lot is literally across the street from where I live, they really won't get seen unless there is some really heavy word of mouth and/or marketing. Ironically, the man that owns the parking lot is the same landlord the owners of Trattoria Acqua could not come to lease terms with. These two are good guys andI really hope they succeed.

Please give a shout out when they start showing up over there -- would love to check them out. Thanks!

Tried them out today after they got covered on FOX5 this morning. Very enthusiastic guys, decent prices. Although they were there today, they are waiting permission from the Church (who leases the parking lot) to allow them to park M-W-F 11:30-1:30.

Cool -- thanks for the report, FC! So they're going to be IN that Ace parking lot on Cave Street, and NOT on Tuesdays or Thursdays?

I see from your photos that they have a website, though there's not much there there yet:

                Love that their website states:
'website is baking in the oven and will be done soon'

                Whatcha have?
