Sit down place for dessert near Emma's/Kendall/Red Line?

We'll be having an early dinner at Emma's on Saturday and Birthday Girl wants dessert-which Emma's doesn't seem to provide.

Catch is we'll have a disabled person with us who won't be too happy to walk all over creation (and neither will I depending on the weather!). I'm thinking some place within a 5-10 minute walk from either Emma's or a Red Line stop (between Park and Porter.

Doesn't have to be fancy-but should be able to seat 5 or 6 of us comfortably and hopefully without a long wait and should have coffee and decent desserts-preferably cakes and pastries. Birthday girl doesn't consider cookies to be dessert. Her loss!

Toscanini's and Burdick's come to mind and I'm thinking there should be something in Davis Square? Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

  1. What about Flour on Mass Ave near MIT? It isn't too far and they have a nice range of pastries and cakes, as well as good coffee.

    1. You might go across the street to either The Blue Room or Cambridge Brewing Company...

I dunno. 5:30 or so on a Saturday night-at least 4 of us-just for dessert? Would that be possible at the Blue Room?

5:30 is still pretty early. I don't know how busy the Blue Room is these days, but most places would probably be happy to fill a table that early, even if only for dessert and coffee.

And there is a table/booth in the bar area (at Blue Room) that might be the perfect spot for dessert.

        2. Thanks for the tip on The Blue Room. Haven't been there in ages. I'll put it up against Burdick's and see which wins. But I gotta feeling the chocolate will win out big time!

Burdick's is a great idea, but it can be dicey wrt seating, it can be totally swamped and I wouldn't want to be waiting if I were disabled.

Other ideas in Harvard Square are Finale which is dedicated to these things (I'm not the target audience for this place but REALLY good hot chocolate) and Russell House Tavern, which has some nice looking desserts (I haven't had them, but like the rest of the menu), and lots of room. I like what the pastry chef does at OM in HS, too, though that might be more of an adult taste than you're looking for. It is a kind of special feeling place.

I have had great desserts at Hungry Mother, and they may be able to accomodate you at that hour--short walk from Emma's.

If Hungry Mother is doable at that time w/out a reservation, I would also throw in Oleana. They have some of the best desserts in the area. Or even Rendezvous for that lemon dessert. But before making the trek to any of these restaurants I would call first.
