Checking to see if I could scare up some Chowhound recs for Istanbul. We'll be staying in Sultanhamet and spending 4 days, so I don't expect we'll get too far afield. We're both vegetarian (no meat or fish, but we do eat eggs / dairy), so anything particularly veg-friendly would be most welcome. Thanks in advance!
On Friday nights, head to the Four Seasons in Sultanahmet for a wine and cheese tasting. It's basically all you can eat and drink for 30 lira. It's a lot of fun. You can make a reservation, but you don't usually need one.
Also, I'd highly recommend getting out of the Sultanahment area at least some of the time b/c it's so touristy and just one part of the city. Def. check out the night life and great restaurants in Tasksim or Beyoğlu.
You can get some great mezzes at rakici asmalimescit in Taksim...See my full review at http://myturkishjoys.blogspot.com/201.... Although the restaurant focuses on seafood, you can make a great meal off the selection of mezzes.
Istanbul is covered on the Europe board (http://chowhound.chow.com/boards/87). You might want to search the board over there for Sultanahmet options. Not to far away is Fatih Karadeniz Pidecisi and you can't do much better than a peynirli pide (cheese pide) from that place. It is outstanding./
