Positive Review of Harimandar

For those vegetarians who live in Mexico City, this place is really delicious and incredibly cheap too. I went there for lunch yesterday (it's located at Euler 145 in Polanco) and the full meals are an unheard of for the area $65 pesos. The food is Indian, 100% vegetarian, mildly spiced and the servers even often you free extra portions if you're not full when you finish. Happily, hubs and I were quite full after eating the standard portion.

The day we went they were only offering their 3 full meal offerings, and not the veggie burgers and such that they supposedly usually have. I don't know much about Indian food except that it's always good, but will describe what we ordered as best I can. Each full meal came with lime water, chapati, a lentil cake, a slightly spicy and delicious eggplant compote, rice, salad, and several sauces that helped bring the whole meal together. They also serve soft drinks, chai and lassis--the mango lassi I ordered was very good.

All in all, hubs and I left feeling healthy and full for just $160 pesos total (including tip). There's a Swiss Bakery a few doors down that we couldn't resist trying, so we unnecessarilly yet happily gorged on high quality Grand Marnier, Blackberry, marzipan, and other assorted chocolate goodies on the short walk back to our car (incredibly, we found free street parking both times we visited the restaurant).

Note that Harimandar only stays open until 7 pm, and I recommend getting there several hours earlier as the first time we tried to eat there we arrived at 6 pm and were told that all the food was gone already!
