Are there any good spirit shops that sell Marula (not the cream licquor) or Cachaca? Another option is to find a place that I could just get it as a shot to taste at a bar. Any ideas?

Hi Times in Costa Mesa carries at least 6 or 8 brands of cachaca. You might try asking some of the storekeepers along Venice Blvd near Overland, where much of West LA's Brazilian population congregates.

I've seen Amarula cream liquor at BevMo, but not pure marula spirit, if that's what you're talking about.

You can get cachaça at the liquor store on Ventura Blvd. across from Koo Koo Roo in Studio City (sorry, can't remember the name of it) or the liquor store in Santa Monica on the corner of Wilshire and Yale ("Jerry's", I think it's called).

The place across from Koo Koo Roo in Studio City is the Flask Fine Wines. They sometimes have it in and I would call first.

BevMo also carries at least 3 (I think) different kinds of cachaca, and when I bought my bottle, the Pitu brand was on sale (a couple of dollars off the normal price - not much, but always a nice little extra).

Larry, I was thinking of Cafe Brasil and Zabumba as Brasilian restaurants who'd have an answer for you, and probably would have cachaca at their bars. They're both within about 1/2 mile of each other on Venice Blvd.
