Richmond - Chez Foushee

A friend and I went away for a girls' weekend to Richmond. The first night we were there we had dinner at Chez Foushee, and it really was wonderful. We had gotten to our hotel (Linden Row Inn) late on a Friday after a crummy drive from DC, but we were able to get an 8:30 table at Chez Foushee.

It was such a pleasant, tranquil, relaxing experience with terrific food, and a wonderful wait staff. The interior of the restaurant is absolutely lovely. Our table, with a single votive, was toward the back of the restaurant on a platform with 2 or 3 other tables. The platform was surrounded by wrought iron, which made it a charming little deck with which to view the entire restaurant. The music was hip without being loud, and, although the restaurant had plenty of people when we first got there, the decibel level was low.

My friend and I shared a pork and shrimp potsticker appetizer, had green salads with blue cheese dressing, and then we each ordered the $29 sirloin. Loved that the sirloin came simply with a fan of mashed potatoes and about a dozen lightly-sauteed French-cut green beans.

We each had several glasses of a server-recommended Cabernet, and finished off the evening with a VSOP (instead of dessert). The restaurant was closing by the time we were finishing dinner, but we never once felt rushed, and were even able to enjoy an extra glass of wine at the bar as the restaurant wound-down. It must have only been about 11:00 when we finally left.
