Where can I buy stone crabs?

As one of the countless many who grew up in Miami and now call NYC home, winter means stone crab season to me. I got some 2 or 3 weeks ago at the Whole Foods in Columbus Circle, but they were smalls and frozen, no idea they had actually been sitting around. Is there anywhere I can get larger sized, preferably not frozen, stone crabs? I was at the Lobster Place in Chelsea Market yesterday and they did not have them, though they do sell the mustard curiously enough.

Lobster Place does have them sometimes—or at least the one on Bleecker Street does. They keep them in the window when they do have them and they look GIANT and very fresh. If you contact them, I bet they could give you a call when they get some next.

Thanks all, Lobster Place is more convenient than Wild Edibles, though I'll do what I have to.

Chief - the reason I don't like getting them from Joe's or George's is because you usually need a minimum order of like 5 pounds at $30-40 per pound plus overnight shipping of around $50. My wife doesn't particularly love stone crabs, so for just myself, $200+ seems a bit excessive to me.

wild edibles might have the larger ones
as to fresh, you just have to ask

I think you can also mail order direct from Florida, if you dont mind paying the shipping

Yeah, I'd just get them mail order from Joe's. I haven't had stone crabs even close to that quality anywhere else.
