Miguel's Restaurant & Lounge - Belfast, PA - Lehigh Valley - Easton area

My girlfriend & I were curious about this new restaurant that replaced Cafe Del Mar (a GOOD restaurant). It is located on Sullivan Trail. We ordered one of their signature dishes; Paella, for two people. The dish was $65.00 and we were a bit reluctant about ordering it for that price, but we assumed it would be a generous portion, as it is traditionally. Before it was served I ordered the oysters on half-shell at (5) for $14.00. They were small but good and yes; very expensive.

The paella was served in a 9" skillet about 1" deep!!! I thought it was for one person when I first saw it. We told the waiter that it was the smallest portion of paella we've ever seen for two people and he laughed.

This restaurant is a ripoff! If anyone who reads this puts any effort whatsoever into earning their money, DO NOT EAT HERE! This restaurant is also listed in the Lehigh Valley Good Taste publication and their advertisement mentions that additional side dishes were included with the paella (we found out after we dined there, of course) and we got none.

Way too expensive and way too small of a portion. Your money would be better spent elsewhere.

  1. Cafe del Mar will be sorely missed, especially since it sounds like the place that replaced it isn't worth it. At that price, I can't imagine they'll be around long.

    1. The owners of Cafe del Mar are the same people who own Miguels! They are great, hard working people.....I had 4 of us eat their last Saturday night and we had a great meal, we have supported Cafe del Mar since day 1.. ..Chicken Ecstasy, Tuna, Filet Oscar and Lamb were all excellent! The menu has changed somewhat since CDM and a very slight increase in prices is a standard practice in the industry and they didnt effect our decisions. They have a huge choice of awesome apps, the crabcakes and scallops where yummy. I am sure if you would have discussed your situation with Miguel he would have rectified the problem right then and there. The bashing of a new business trying to succeed in a bad economy isnt always a good solution. We will continue to spread the word to our friends and family and look to our next meal @ Miguels in a couple of weeks! It's also nice these people continue to support local music while others do not. Only the Best to Miguels!!

In all fairness to those who may choose to dine here, I must maintain that there are much better choices in the Lehigh Valley. We waited to discuss our disappointment with management, to no avail. I've dined at just about every good restaurant in my area and feel as though my opinion is worth a bit more than a mere bashing of a "new" business.

I will be posting some good area restaurants in the near future; establishments that I am confident in and do not feel as though I have to defend.

      2. My husband, his brother, and myself went here last night for dinner. We arrived at around 6:30 and sat at the bar for dinner. It started to get crowded shortly after, seems that a very nice crowd goes here. The menu is the same at the bar as in the dining room, and the whole place is non-smoking, which is awesome. Miguel was there - friendly, nice man. Paulina was our waitress. Nice girl, friendly and very efficient, despite it having gotten pretty busy. Lots of other people at the bar were ordering dinner/food as well, not just drinks. For apps, we had Smoked Trout and Lamb Chops - both were delicious and well-presented. For dinners, I had the salmon Mediterranean, and my husband and BIL had seafood dishes as well (can't remember exactly). Everything was great and the portions were very large. We each had left overs to take home. Prices seem to be about average for this type of establishment. Selection of wines and beer is pretty good. I would definitely recommend this place. We've been going here for years, since the days it was the Belfast Hotel, then Cafe Del Mar. It seems to have pretty much maintained as it was, which is definitely a good thing. This was our first trip as Miguel's. We love out-of-the-way, family-owned places and this will still be one of our favorites.

        1. I did notice that the Paella for Two came down in price, it was only $40-something last nite when we were there.

          1. Recently had a dinner here...service was good...place was nice...however portions were small for the price, and not as flavorful as anticipated.
