A bit dated, but here's a survey of XLB I did when trying to track down the "best" along with a later update.

Unfortunately, the Jiangxi Lu branch of De Long Guan is gone, but I believe there are still branches in Zhabei and Hongkou (Yangpu?).

Not a new joint, but if you haven't tried the Shanghai-style XLBs at Fu Chun, you're missing out. For Nanjing-style, head to the corner of Gao'an and Jianguo for a great hole in the wall!

We'll be at L Meridian so we will check these out. Anyplace else not to be while we're there for local food? Also, we love Yangs!!

Nothing new. Still my two favorites: Jia Jia (has a new second location) and DTF.

Jia Jia has had two locations for about three years now (Huanghe Lu and Liyuan Lu). The same owner also opened a near-clone of Jia Jia Tang Bao, Lin Long Fang on Jianguo Dong Lu in the Spring of 2009.
