Asian style lobster - where in Halifax
I have found this site to be such a great tool as a newcomer to Halifax.
Here is my new challenge to the group When I lived close to Toronto we would go to a little restaurant in China Town (on Baldwin) and order the lobster with garlic, ginger and green onion. It was absolutely delicious! The chef would chop up the lobster, shell and all and fry it in a walk with onion, garlic and green onion and other spices. The lobster is not in a sauce and it seems to have a very, very light batter over the shell. It was amazing. I am hungry just thinking about it. I could almost even eat the shell it was so good.
Does anyone know where I can get something similar in Halifax?
We tried to make the dish but it was a failure.
We were at Jixiang on Quinpool several months ago when a monstrous platter of lobster arrived at the table next to us. The waiter told us they brought their own and cost $10 to prepare. It looked exquisite.
By the way one of the best lobster recipes is in that old Time/Life Cookbook that came out about 1970 or so, something like Chinese Cooking (there was a series of ethnic volumes). It's in the smaller book that came in the case, the book with the wire binding. Just be careful to add the eggs just as they suggest - in a very slow stream. Anything with black beans appeals greatly!
Long Dragon in lower sackville. The owner name is Tim. Pick up a few lobsters live and bring them with you. Tim charges $5 per lobster to prepare them. Takes about 30 mins. This is the best lobster I have tasted. Better the next day cold as well.
The make a great vegtable dish to go with it.
Tim will know I reffered you. Give it a try.
