best milkshake?

was going to stop at in n out just for a milkshake, but then I thought, there must be someplace else I'm not thinking of with excellent shakes in san diego! prefer la jolla to hillcrest areas.

For a quick fix, the shakes at Jack In the Box work for me. Just don't try to order after 11pm. They clean the shake machines at that time.

I think Hodads has the best. They will split it for your kids for you and it has a giant scoop of ice cream on the side.

I'm somewhat ashamed to admit it, but the chocolate malt at Carl's Jr is one of my guilty pleasures. Not a fan of anything else there, but when it comes to a shake, I'd say it stands up pretty well to any of the better, more expensive ones I've had elsewhere.

These are out of your preferred range, but the chocolate shakes at D.Z. Akin's and especially Beef 'N Bun in El Cajon are thick, creamy, and delish. Not fancy, just excellent classic shakes...

Second the Beef n Bun recommendation. I also had a malted peanut butter milkshake at Ruby's the other day and it was smashing. Corvette also does good milkshakes if you can tolerate the environment. :)

We had once a bacon-chocolate milkshake at the Linkery which was absolutely outstanding. Unfortunately it was only a temporary item. Jay, any chance you could put it back on the menu when it gets warmer ?

Yes. That milkshake was amazing and I'd probably get it every time I'm there if they put it back on the menu.

I'll put in a vote for the porter/stout milkshake at Ritual Tavern as well.
