Great meal at Nudel in Lenox
We have been considering Nudel for awhile but worried it would be too precious and overpriced like most Lenox places. But our friends wanted to try something new and all four of us we re pleasantly surprised. On an arctic evening in February the line was long before the doors opened at 5:30, filling all six tables when it opened .
We shared two small plates: a salad of many beautiful greens with walnuts and thick slices of beautiful bacon and order of meatballs which were lovely and came with a sauce incluidng white anchovies. They were both lovely and generously sized,
Two of us had pasta mains: one cheddar cavatelli with sausage and broccoli presented all in small pieces and very luscious and one rigatoni with a mild salsa verde with white beans and clams which was gorgeous and well balanced.
the two other mains were duck breast lightly seared with pureed celeraic and braised endive and roasted slices of winter squash with a little maple flavor; some of the best duck I have eaten. Arctic char was presented with cauliflower cream and de puy lentils. everyone cleaned their plates.
The desserts, chocolate bread pudding and a very toothsome hazlenut torte were good, not as exceptional.
We each had a glass of wine and we had one coffee and the bill was less than $160.
Service was good , unhurried even though there were people waiting. it was comfortable, unpretentious. We will go again, though not in summer when I imagine it is impossible to get in, as there are no reservations.
In season there is also lunch, but not in winter.
