Great Pizza Options in the LA Area

Just returned from not only one of the best pizza experiences I've ever had here in LA, it was the best deal. You cant see it from the street but just off Main St(3110) in Santa Monica is 31Ten, a new restaurant that happens to feature a wood burning oven and a passionate and talented pizzaiolo at the helm. Everyday at Happy Hour 31Ten features expertly crafted pies at a mere pittance, between $6 and $8 per pie. Thats $6 for a regular sized(14 inch?) pie! I had a Diavolo pie which means mozzarella, roasted peppers and a "kind of hybrid pepperoni." It was nearly indescribably delicious. They dont use imported Caputo flour but the crust exhibited a similar soft chewiness. The toppings simply melded into delirious bite after bite. Cant wait to go back! woo,hoo!!!!!

  1. Update on the 31TEN pizza?

    The pizzaiolo has long departed, but the HH is still there, and no one seems to care.

          lolz. While I love Mahin + Stella Rossa, 31Ten's happy hour margherita is only $7...

            I would say that after Noel, the original pizzaiolo at 31Ten, left, the pizza quality dropped considerably...also, was/is much different crust, more Neapolitan style i.e. softer than the Stella Rossa crust which i prefer, though i love Napolitana pizza. Would not go to 31Ten just to save a buck or two on the pie.

              thank you so much for the info.
              since part of my calculation re: food is the calorie/pleasure ratio, i will definitely be sticking to Stella Rossa. i want to maximize the pleasure i get from every calorie i consume... . .

                  Westsidegal, hear ya about the calorie consideration...why waste 'em on less than fully satisfying culinary indulgence!...my opinion anyway...Peripatetic, last time i spoke to him he was looking for a space. Would definitely be a strong addition to the local pizza scene.
