Best Chocolate Babka in LA Area?

JackonCrack Feb 18, 2011 10:56 PM

So, who has the best Chocolate Babka in Los Angeles? I'm willing to travel into the various Valleys too...

I've gone to all the ones they listed in the Weekly
http://blogs.laweekly.com/squidink/20...

and am dying for more recommendations....

I don't know how legit it is, but i have to say i am a fan of the streusel topped variety. Although the most important thing is the ratio and quality of chocolate to bread (more sugary or more fudge y

)

Any recs?

Merci!

    The bakery at Canters Deli (419 N. Fairfax) right up street from Diamond bakery. That bakery is often overlooked and I don't know why. if I lived back in that area it would be on top of my list.

      I don't know if it is the best, but Delicious Bakery in Northridge makes a very good chocolate chip babka. Call ahead; they don't make chocolate every day AFAICT. http://www.delicious-bakery.com/

        Continental Bakery on Burbank just east of Whitsett in Valley Village! It is Kosher so no dairy and of course not open on Shabatt. Pretty good chocolate chip rugelach too.

          I second the recommendation for Continental Bakery. It's the babka par excellence. Also very good is the chocolate babka they sell at the Olive Marketplace on Oxnard near Whitsett.

        Sweet Lady Jane actually makes a very nice babka, though they don't always have it.
