    Anyone recognize those names?

No, but it's fascinating that a couple of guys named Juan and Jose are opening a Japanese sushi place.

Reminds me of the Salvadorans who used to run the Chinese restaurants in Baltimore - seems that they all trained to cook in certain Chinese restaurants in D.C., then went out on their own after a while. It was a little surprising to pick up your lo mein and learn that someone from Central America had done the cooking.

Love the cultural cross-over, from an economic standpoint.

Would love to see some Latino/Japanese cross-over in the spicy tuna rolls, etc.

I talked to the sushi chef/co owner and that is exactly the scenario - two latino brothers who worked in Japanese-owned joints for several years and decided to open their own. He seemed knowledgeable and dedicated.

      1. I was delighted to find a sushi place opening in Somerville (there are so few) and went for lunch and dinner with really pleasant experiences. The sushi was fresh and tasty, service was great, and it's a pleasant atmosphere. The lunch options are cheap and plentiful - enjoyed a katsu donburi and the sushi seemed fresh and tasty. Plus, the place is really clean and spacious. Couldn't find a down side to it. I hope they survive because I didn't see it crowded at any time so I hope more people go there. Please do visit.

        1. I am a fan. I've been there for lunch and dinner and had great experiences. Place is clean, sushi was fresh and not expensive, service was good - can't ask for much more. Especially in an area that doesn't have much good sushi.
I wish more people would go. It's never packed and I am worried they won't be able to sustain it.
