Mexican resto/store in Bellingham ?

Hi all,

IIRC an earlier discussion last fall (on this board ?) someone mentioned there's a small Mex resto that's also a food store, somewhere just north of WWU. For the life of me I can't recall the name, nor even find it via Google. If anyone can help me find it I'd really appreciate it.

We're staying at our usual digs in Fairhaven . The last thing I wanna do is eat at Dos Padres (shivers). And Milagro is too pricey. And we're trying to stay local in the district.

We're goin' down to B-ham next weekend.

TIA.

  1. Sorry, I did find the link after all:

And it's up near Bellis Fair.

    1. There is a new Mexican restaurant that just opened downtown. Haven't been there yet. Here's info from The Herald. By the way, driving up to La Gloria isn't very far. If you don't have a car, that's another story unless you're willing to hop on a bus.
      2/15/2011:
Earlier this month Maria Luisa opened Tadeo’s at 207 E. Holly St., near the Railroad Avenue intersection. The Mexican restaurant has a variety of homemade dishes on the menu, including tamales, comida casera and freshly made tortillas.

The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Hours are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. Thursday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sundays. The early-morning menu includes breakfast burritos and chile rellenos. Luisa said the late-night hours have already been busy and they want to build a good customer base for breakfast as well.

For details about the restaurant, call 360-647-1862.

Thanks Laurachow ! We were down in B'am this past weekend (brrrrr ...... cold !) and I actually saw Tadeo's driving by, but didn't stop. Being so cold, we ended up staying within Fairhaven the whole time, and had Saturday night supper at Mambo Italiano, one of our regular stand-bys. But my tastebuds were pining for something with a kick (ie: Mexican). Alas, Tadeo's will have to wait until next time, maybe I'll do a Mexican crawl starting with Tadeo's for brekkie (would love an authentic well-made huevos rancheros), lunch at La Gloria, and dinner back at Tadeo's :-)

        Thanks for your tip.

I had pork tamales at Tadeo's...I was seriously bummed. The ones at La Gloria are much better. Maybe they'll do other stuff well, but since they advertise their specialty in tamales, well...

I REALLY like the taco truck out on Hannegan - I think Hannegan and Pole Road? It's kitty corner from the Seamar clinic on the intersection there. Fab carne asada. And the taco truck on Samish now, across the street from McDonalds, does some very nice pork tacos.

Cool, thanks for the tips :-)

What about this taco cart on the Guide ? I recall it was discussed on this board (or BC/Vancouver board ?). It's wedged between Pro Golf Discount and Super Gas:

I almost never hit that truck, so I don't know what to tell you. I've had it before and it was good, but as I recall, I was also STARVING after picking cherries all day.

I guess I'll have to check it out!

            2. re: Vetter

I'm working on updating my Bellingham and area taco reccs. It looks like the taco truck on Hannegan is technically in Lynden if anyone is looking for it (and assuming it is still there, and still good!). That is also where the Sea Mar clinic shows up FWIW.

Is there one on Hannegan too ? Or you mean El Tapatio on the Guide by Super Gas (http://goo.gl/maps/EDNPo), which is still there when I drove by about 3 weeks ago.

BTW, anyone been here yet ?

Not El Tapatio. It's at Hannegan and E Pole Road I think, judging by Google maps' location of Sea Mar.

I've eaten at StrEAT Food and thought it was quite good. Slow, but good. Been a while, but I had a grilled cheese loaded with lots of goodness. Hi cholesterol, for sure. Looking forward to eating there again.
