where for lunch in Pleasanton or San Ramon area?
Need an upscale recommendation - not Mexican or Italian.

Not sure if this was time sensitive, but in Danville, Chow is good food, but it's casual, not really "upscale". In Downtown Pleasanton, Stacys used to be pretty good.

Yeah Stacey's OK, a little on the expensive side. There are a couple others in downtown Pleasanton but they are Italian.

Stacey's is horrible. Expensive and you might as well throw Stouffer's in the microwave. I've never gotten the attraction to her place(s) aside from the Gary Larson connection(apparently he's never eaten her food.)

koi garden is upscale chinese - but probably not what you're looking for.
oasis (afghan) in downtown pleasanton has an upscale feel, but it's hard to recommend because the food is all drenched in the same sauce
most of my favorites in the area are the ethnic restaurnats - saigon (vietnamese), kadupul (sri lankan), rose garden (indian), pamir (afghan)

Go to Esin in Danville at the Sycamore exit from 680, or Bridges in downtown Danville. Both are good for lunch. Food is better (IMHO) at Esin. If you like desserts, Esin have a huge selection of fresh and seasonal yummies.

I just remembered Patrick David's in Danville as well. I had a wonderful, (and pretty pricey), lunch there last summer. Definitely upscale.

I would give an additional thumbs up to Esin - it is in the small shopping mall where Navalet's and Maria Maria are located - easy access to and from freeway 680

Laurus and Blackhawk Grille might be the kind of venue you are looking for. For steaks, try Forbes Mill Steakhouse. All are in the San Ramon area.
