A very small shout-out to The Druid
Ended up at The Druid in Inman Sq last night, not by design. We'd been trying to go to Tupelo, but -- word to the wise -- it's slammed this week because the Groupon from last year is expiring Friday. Anyway, I always forget how good the food is at The Druid.
We had a perfect pub meal. Well-poured Guinness and Smithwick's (if a little colder than I like), freakishly good shepherd's pie, friendly service, and a live quartet in the window seat playing Irish fiddle music.
Why don't I ever remember how tasty and homey this place is?

My reaction every time I go. It gets a lot of love -- all of it well deserved.

The best fish sandwich.
Great daytime spot as well (menu served all day)

The Druid is awesome. The difficulty is deciding what to order. The veggie burger, regular burger, chicken soup, and fried fish are all favorites, but we had a lamb burger special the other night that was equal to the others. The waiters are great guys and it's always perfectly cozy.

Contrast that burger with the one I had last night at Christopher's - special with ham and pineapple and some sort of pineapple salsa - pineapple was canned, cold and just tossed on the burger - blech! You'd think they could have just thrown it on the grill for a minute - that plus crap-ass service at the bar and I see no reason to ever darken their door again.

You'd think for a 'special' they'd take a bit more care. Christopher's is consistently sub par (food, service, etc). I had the same reaction as you the last time we were there over a year ago.

It's a shame because I swear I remember that 10 or so years ago, Christopher's was actually really good!

The Druid is that CH rarity: I don't think I've ever heard a bad word about this place on these boards. For my money, the fish and chips are the best in Boston.

There better not be a bad word uttered as you lay down that gauntlet. Their fish and chips are great--it would be hard to choose between that and Tavern at the End of the World, but why choose?

Oh it definitely has its detractors, particularly regarding the burger. I'm not one (the only issue I have is that it's very often more crowded than I want to deal with, but that's not their fault) but they exist here.
