Meeting some friends for bowling on Friday. I don't particularly like "chains" so wondering if there is anything decent around Dundas/403/Winston Churchill area. All I know about is the big chains like Montana's, Lone Star, etc. Anything decent in that area? All cuisine types considered but one of my friends is a "meat and potatoes" kind of guy.

  1. I had some OK Thai at Bamboo Legend on the north side of Dundas, west of Winston Churchill. Not sure if that will be a problem for your "meat and potatoes" friend, though. Perhaps you could offer to order for him and pick something "safe"? I find my chain-loving friends are far more likely to experiment if they don't have the pressure of deciphering many new choices on a menu.

You're right that the area is generally nothing but chains. I was at the aforementioned Bamboo Legend because the rest of my group was at Boston Pizza!

Hi, can you let me know what the chinese restaurant places are? I convinced him to join me at a raw food restaurant and he liked it so maybe he is more adventurous than I give him credit for..

Will keep the thai spot in mind too.

          Hi

Perfect kitchen on Ridgeway beside the Brick. Summit Gardens in the north east corner of dundas and winston churchill. Miga - Korean/Japanese on Dundas between Winston Churchill and Erin Mills. Big Bowl - Vietnamese on dundas near Miga.

      2. I quite like Trattoria Timone for some decent Italian food. A little south of Dundas at AMC Theater on Winston Churchill.

        1. bamboo legend is the coffee-truck expiry date grab bag sandwich version of vietnamese /thai. one blovk north of dundas on winston churchill in the longos/shoppers DM plaza (east side) is a korean owned Dai Ichi. have eaten there probably 15 times. pork bone soup is rich, warming and very good (not Owl of Minerva good but good). sashimi, sushi, and bi bim bop all fresh and good. often, the waitress will bring you japanese grilled salted mackerel on the bone with lemon For Free! always a good experience there.
go a few blocks north to collegeway and ridgeway there is a small plaza with a place (i think) called julie original jerk. really really good. service is on island time but its delicious. fried chicken and fish fridays. so good.
ridgeway just north of dundas (across from perfect kitchen-which is quite good) is Shish Mahal. take out from there several times, although there is a buffet, dining room and bar-chicken vindaloo is terrific.

          1. I've never been, but there's Pamier Kabob on Collegeway and Ridgeway.
It's supposed to be good Afghan food though the following isn't as large as Bamiyans.

There should be some mixed kabob or family platters that should be enough to feed a small village. I would recommend this place particularly if you want meat.

            1. Artizano's is good - bit on the lighter side but a variety of dishes. Their website shows the menu so you can get an advanced look to see if it fits the bill. It's in that funny little plaza between the Brick and the Manadarin (used to be Lucy's Seafood) etc. We've had a location deeper in Oakville for awhile and quite enjoy it.

              1. Just to update this thread (since I like when people update on where they ended up!). It sounded like we weren't going out to dinner anymore so I ended up eating a late lunch but turns out one of the people didn't eat before we met up so we were walking around that area for something quick and I suggested Artisano (I have been to other locations and it was pretty good) but one of the girls saw the Pita Grill so we went there instead.... I had a kabob sandwich, it was just okay. Wouldn't really recommend it, other better options for schwarma, etc.

                1. Is there anything else in this area that anyone can recommend? Maybe leaning more towards different ethnicities? Looking for some new places to eat in our area? Any hiddne jems. We love all types of food and enjoying trying new things as well. I'm just adding to this post as the OP has already seems to have found what they were looking for. Thanks in advance.
