Gramercy Tavern or Gotham?

One of my friends is moving to Switzerland and I am trying to pick a place for her last NY dinner. I am trying to decide between Gramercy Tavern and Gotham Bar and Grill. Both have reservations at the time I want and she hasn't been to either. What are your thoughts?

Gramercy Tavern
42 E 20th St, New York, NY 10003

Gotham Bar and Grill
12 East 12th Street, New York, NY 10003

    1. Depends in part on the ambience you're looking for. Gramercy is more downtown. Gotham is more elegant.

Thanks for the tips. I'm leaning toward Gramercy. Is there something else you might recommend that's even better for a last New York dinner? Originally I was thinking of Casa Mono or Market Table but am trying to give her a quintissential NY dinner.

        Casa Mono
52 Irving Place, New York, NY 10003

        Market Table
54 Carmine Street, New York, NY 10014

Gramercy! I've lived in the city for 7 years, and it certainly stands out as one of the best I've had. Get the tasting menu, they just keep bringing new things.

On the contrary, I was very unimpressed with Gotham. I remember small portions and being very underwhelmed with the taste given its fame. It was a head-scratcher.

      2. Tough call. Both are first rate though I'd give the edge to Gotham. If I was moving to Switzerland from NYC, I'd go to Esca, Second Avenue Deli, Kajitsu, or one of Chang's places. She'll be able to get food as good if not better in Switzerland that is like Gramercy or Gotham, but not so the ones I mentioned.

        Second Avenue Deli
        162 E 33rd St, New York, NY 10016

402 West 43rd Street, New York, NY 10036

414 East 9th Street, New York, NY 10009
