Lincoln Center - Monday, mid-afternoon

We're going to an opera dress rehearsal on Monday (2/21). It begins at 11:00 and will go until at least 3:00-3:30 (rehearsal = unpredictable). Afterwards we will be more than ready for a late lunch.

I've come up with Bistro Cassis and Cafe Ronda; haven't been to either, but both sound good, reasonably priced and relatively nearby. And both offer vegetarian options.

Anyone know if they serve all day long? So, if we got there at 4:00, say, could we get lunch? And at that time of day would there be a long wait? I'm thinking not... but we don't usually eat at that time of day, so ..... (Making a reservation would be tough; see unpredictable above.)

Of course we could just stroll along and find someplace, but if the weather is nasty it would be nice to have a destination in mind.

Thanks!!

I believe Cafe Ronda has service through the afternoon. It's a rather decent option for Argentinan food with some renditions of Spanish. The food I've had has been delicious and their cocktails restorative. I wouldn't imagine there would be much of a wait. The only times I see it get crowded before night are on Thursdays and Fridays right after work.

Fairway Café (on Broadway @ 74th) is open all day, and has a Mediterranean vegetable platter on the lunch menu, several salads (that would require eliminating a non-vegetable food item) & pizza, plus many other options for the non-vegetarian. (I'm assuming your party is not all-vegetarian. Apologies if wrong.) Food is good - much better than a diner (of which there are several in the neighborhood). THere's also a Pain Quotidien on 65th just east of Columbus; they have vegetarian options as well and are open all day.

Thanks to all for these good suggestions.

(Boredough, you are correct -- husband is not a vegetarian. Fairway sounds as if it might work well!)

Note: the entrance to FC is between 2 stretches of outdoor produce. Enter & head upstairs.

Surprised to see that Bar Boulud distinguishes between lunch and dinner on their Web site since I've been there, more than once, around 4:00. Didn't pay careful attention to what menu I was handed. Maybe there's a magic hour at which it changes. But the restaurant doesn't close the way Bistro Cassis does.

It's not just a matter of distinguishing between lunch and dinner vis-a-vis the menu. The way the hours are listed on the website indicates that they close after lunch and don't reopen until dinner. Obviously, that's not the case since you have first-hand experience going there around 4. They really should change that.

Bistro Cassis closes after lunch and doesn't reopen for dinner until 5:00. Don't know about Cafe Ronda. You might check out Bar Boulud right across the street from Lincoln Center. They serve all day and there shouldn't be a problem being seated at 4:00. Although they may tell you they'll want the table back at 5:00 or 5:30, I've never felt rushed once I've been seated.
