Looking for Private Dining Room for 20 people in Chicago

I live in NYC but need to find a private dining room for either a cocktail reception on a Saturday or a brunch on a Sunday in Chicago. It's my sister's baby shower. Looking for something with a rustic feel (think August or Il Buco in NYC) - i.e. nothing too modern. Not too expensive either. Suggestions for this out-of-towner would be very welcome!

  1. You don't mention location. Where will your sister and her friends be coming from? Chicago is a big city. If everyone lives in the western suburbs, you wouldn't want to pick a place on the north side (or vice versa). In NYC terms, you wouldn't want to pick a place on the island if most of the folks are coming from Jersey!

    1. I highly recommend Spacca Napoli for this type of event. I had a wedding shower there. It is technically a pizzeria, but it is very upscale with authentic Neapolitian pizzas. They have two private areas one that will seat at most 20 people around one long table in a small semi private room that has a nice rustic atmosphere and its own little bar area and another bigger area that is usually used as a dining room extension but can be closed off using some beautiful sliding panels. We had burrata and fried zucchini blossoms to start followed by an assortment of pizzas and panna cota with balsamic and tiramisu for dessert. The waiters also passed out little glasses of moscato while everyone was milling around at the beginning, that went over well too. The owner, Jon, could not have been nicer or more helpful. The location is in a residential area of the Ravenswood neighborhood. It is accessible by public transportation and there is ample free parking, but it is far from the downtown/Mag Mile hotel area.

I have also heard good things about wedding or baby showers at Hot Chocolate in the Bucktown area, which would be more convenient if you have a lot of people who are in the downtown area. There room is not totally private, but they divide it off with curtains.

      1. I recently was part of a group lunch in a private room at Athena in Greektown (Halsted and Adams, about a mile west of the Loop). The room was very pleasant, and not as sterile as many such can be. The staff were very nice, and they served an excellent (Greek, of course) buffet. I didn't arrange it, but I imagine the price would be moderate.
