Taco Trucks or Other Food Wagons

With the new trend in better quality offered on food trucks I wondered if there are any in the Vegas strip area. If there are any worth trying I'd like to sample the goods either in the afternoon or later in the night. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Larry

A nice chance to sample some of the Las Vegas mobile dining options on Sunday night, March 13. They are calling it "Vegas StrEATS Fest", starting at 8 PM downtown at the El Cortez. Among the vendors participating will be - Slidin' Thru, Fukuburger, Sloppi Jo's, Tasty Bunz, Curbside Cafe, Snow Ono Shave Ice, Island Breeze and Cheese Steak. Live entertainment also, and bar service.

      SATURDAY night, March 12th. 8 p.m. to 3 a.m.

Shame I didn't hear about it sooner. Would have been fun.

Oops. Had seen this in the Las Vegas Sun -

It's a parade of food trucks, all setting up for one tasty street event. Featured trucks participating include Slidin' Thru, Fukuburger, Sloppi Jo's, Tasty Bunz, Curbside Cafe, Snow Ono Shave Ice, Island Breeze and Cheese Steak. Enjoy music from eight local bands, 11 DJs, plus drink specials like $2 draft beers and $3 Jameson shots.

        When: Sunday, March 13, 2011

My bad for trusting the local press. Something that we should rarely do here.

Here is another twist on the concept, and perhaps something we will see more of - the Sliding Thru Burger Truck is opening a storefront this weekend, at 955 Grier Drive (just off of Paradise, between Sunset and Warm Springs). Apparently they will be open 24 hours.

This trend is occurring more and more in NY, too -- not that there is any shortage of food trucks. I walked from the West Village to the lower East Side and couldn't go for more than a block without confronting another truck.

This link should help, too: http://lasvegasfoodtrucks.com/

Anything in the general area? I'll be in Chinatown for a while one day.

The only taco truck I've been to is located a couple of miles east of the strip on Charleston and is only open Thursday through Sunday and from 7 pm until they decide to close. It goes by the name of El Pastorcito. So far I've only had the al pastor tacos, and they were excellent. Here's a little write up on the truck. It's the second one listed among the three taco joints reviewed.

Here's a link to a small article about Vegas food trucks. I tried Fukuburger last week and it was quite good.

There was an article in the NY Times about a week ago about Las Vegas that mentioned Fukuburger -- the author loved it. I haven't been yet but have been meaning to try it. I'll be out and about tomorrow in the general neighborhood where it hangs out.....hmmm....

Also, someone here on Chowhound mentioned the Korean-style Tacos in a truck on Lake Mead near Tenaya. I am ashamed to admit I haven't been to that one either, even though I drive by it on a near-daily basis.

And speaking of driving by, there is a taco truck at the corner of Vegas and Decatur (or is it Vegas and Jones?) that always catches my eye on the way home from work. I really have to get out of MY truck and start eating at these places once in awhile...I'm sure I will once the weather warms a bit and the days are longer....

The Fukuburger truck is often parked in the lot of Moon Doggies on the weekend. And Moon Doogies, on Desert Inn and Arville, is the newish home of Naked Subs and Pizza. So with Boston-style pizza, Asian-influenced burgers, and all-American subs, this corner is turning into a food destination.

It seems from their website that they are only open in the evenings....anybody know if they do lunches during the week at all?

janetofreno, I'm not sure who's website you're referring to. Is it the Fukuburger truck? If so, when I tried it during the middle of last week it was around noon.

Also, I just checked the Fukuburger website and their schedule mentions that they will be at the Molto Vegas Farmer's Market (located 7540 S Dean Martin Dr) today, Thursday2/17 for lunch from 11am-2pm.

The schedule on the website did mention the Molto market, but every other site listed was for an evening schedule (7pm to 10 etc).

There are no food trucks on the Strip.
