Sheger Restaurant - Ethiopian
I was stuck in a traffic jam on Bellaire over the weekend and spotted this one. They've been open since September but it's back from the street, doesn't face the street and there's no street side sign. It's a large room, very plainly decorated.
I tried the Yesiga Wat, an Ethiopian beef stew. I've never had this at an Ethiopian restaurant before but have seen it mentioned in a thread on beef stews on another forum and now it'll be one of my go-to dishes. I tend to say that about most of the dishes I try at Ethiopian restaurants. I think it really should be touted as Ethiopian chili here in Texas - that's what it is and it's damn good. (no beans, either).
They have a selection of beer and a small selection of wine; they also have a section set up for the Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony but I didn't even try the coffee I was so full from the wat and injera.
Good to have another Ethiopian restaurant. Sheger is an old name for Addis Ababa in one of the regional dialects.
