Ice Cream Battle

Ok - so in our house we have an ongoing battle. Party Cake Ice Cream -vs- Haagen Dazs Vanilla Swiss Almond. Every now and then we'll throw pistachio cashew (me) and cookies and cream (them) into the mix. We're looking for a tie breaker. What are your favorites?

Hard to go wrong with any of the quality brands. That is, as long as the flavor has at least one other texture/flavor (ideally, a crunchy or chewy).

As a clarification, I am referring to pre-packaged or supermarket ice cream - something we can pull out of the freezer when the bug hits. Thanks for the great suggestions so far, looks like we have some fun taste testing ahead.

If you're talking about pre-packaged ice cream, it's hands down the Bourbon Vanilla Bean Ice Cream from Silver Moon.

It is one of their flavors they rotate with others, but when Blue Bell make it I love Southern Hospitality. Homemade vanilla, with pineapple, pecans, and strawberry sauce mixed in. Very good.

Ben & Jerry's Vanilla Caramel Fudge. Sometimes hard to find, but Safeway seems to carry it consistently. Yum.

My ,local store has begun carrying a brand called LaSalle. $2.49 the pint. Best vanilla I've ever had.

I vote for Haagen Dazs Caramel Cone, Chocolate Peanut Butter and/or Dulce de Leche. If they would bring back Mayan Chocolate, I would vote for that as the very best ice cream, hands down.

Of the store-bought brands, I like: Haagen Dazs Caramel Cone, Ben & Jerry's Chocolate Fudge Brownie, Ben & Jerry's Peanut Butter Cup, Edy's Drumstick and Edy's Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup.

Cold Stone, though, wins it for me!

I agree the toasted almond coconut fudge gelato is quite excellent, Palazzolo also makes a dark chocolate gelato that ranks high.

But my ultimate choice is Ben and Jerry's Chubby Hubby.

Haagen Dazs' Five vanilla is my favorite ice cream. Only five ingredients and the vanilla flavor shines through. Oberweis Dairy's vanilla is outstanding, too.
