Help me plan my own chocolate tour!

I looked into doing a chocolate tour of Boston but they don't have very good reviews. So please help me plan my own! Where do you recommend I stop? And what do I try there? Any part of Boston is fine as we will go into Boston multiple times over the summer.

Thanks!

In addition to L.A. Burdicks, Taza, and Cafe Fleuri, add Chocolee (where is she now?), and Teuscher on Newbury St.

Love Chocolee - she's on Dartmouth in the South End: http://www.chocoleechocolates.com/index.htm.

Consider adding the Erbaluce chocolate and eggplant dessert to your intinerary (call the chef/owner, I imagine it can be arranged ahead of time). Amazing dish, originally from Amalfi, I think.

A great way to hit a lot of places at one time is at Chocolate Madness. It's a fundraiser in late April at the Cyclorama. About 30-40 restaurants/chocolatiers/bakeries bring chocolate desserts and compete in a variety of categories (candies, cookies, brownies, cakes, ice creams, etc.). Tickets are $35 and give you access to as much chocolate as you could possibly want.

Hmmm, looks interesting. It doesn't list a time, but I do have Tuesdays off work.

For those of you who aren't familiar, it's a pro-choice fundraiser if that matters to you.

Cafe Fleuri does a mammoth chocolate buffet. I haven't personally been (not much of a chocolate girl), but I hear it's pretty dope.

Relatively new place on West Broadway in South Boston called Blue Tierra. Really enjoy their barks (mixed berry, cranberry almond, etc.). There is also an area to sit and enjoy your chocolate with a beverage.

If you haven't already been, on your way to Boston make a stop in Lawrence to Van Otis Truffles. This is not the same as Van Otis Chocolate in Manchester, NH as Van Otis in Lawrence only specialize in Swiss truffles.

This place is truely a small family owed operation that has been putting out a great product for the past 40 years.

They are only open until May and then open again in September. When they reopen in September, they will be opening at a new location in North Andover, MA and closing their Lawrence location.

If you have any interest in places a little further away, Byrne and Carlson in Portsmouth, NH is the best in the region for high quality, in-house produced chocolate.

Their factory is in Kittery though. And you can get their chocolate locally at Formaggio

I was recently given a box of Seranade Chocolates. They were very delicious. I believe they are located in Brookline.

Yes, Serenade is in Brookline Village. They are my favorite local chocolatier.

You will see a lot about Taza Chocolate Factory (in Somerville), which is interesting but I can;t get past the grittiness of it. the flavors are bright and it is locally made so i support it. Also in Somerville, I like the Belgian Truffle House on Broadway. Burdicks in Cambridge is another usual suspect.

Thanks. I keep meaning to try Burdicks and forget that the Cambridge one is actually close to me in Nashua than the Walpole NH one. Does the Cambridge one also have a cafe serving lunch?

They don't serve lunch, but they do serve the desserts and coffee drinks. But there are plenty of lunch options in Harvard Sq.

Rizzo, Burdick's in Walpole is great if you want to do a more "food centric" trip - there's farms in the area that sell produce / cheese / raw milk. Plus, there's the great restaurant there, so you could do a Sunday brunch / food run.
Phillips in Dorchester might do a tour if you're interested in an old fashoined "Mom & Pop" type of place. Closer to Nashua, you have Swan & Van Otis.

Belgian Truffle House closed its retail storefront. Last I looked Ball Sq. Liquors carried their truffles.
