River Oyster Bar - - Miami

Has anyone been here? - - - My wife and I are zipping down to Miami for a couple of days and this place is near our hotel and right up our alley. Any opinions would be appreciated about this place or anything else nearby.
Is there anything in South Beach that is not too hip with great food? I don't feel like packing a jacket, but will if necessary. Price is not an issue, but I appreciate value.

Thank you

I have not been to ROB in quite a while but I really liked it. I prefer the bbq over their seafood btw but both were great.

There is no place in miami that you need to bring a jacket to.

For SOBE in no particular order (assuming no hole in the wall places):

    Joes Stone Crab
    Sardinia
    Alta Mare
    Osteria del Teatro
    Clarkes
    Joe Allen

Pubbelly gets dq'd on hipness (it is an in spot) but it is not sceney. Food is great there.

Good recommendations from TP. I've been to River Oyster Bar recently and enjoyed it. Oysters are 1/2 off during happy hour and they've got a very nice selection and very fresh. I also like their fire-roasted oysters, topped with bubbling manchego cheese and chorizo, the crabcakes, the steamed mussels, the pasta with crab and sea urchin roe.

A friend who dines out as often as I do recently asked where to take someone for seafood that isn't too casual like Garcia's, etc. I was totally stumped for about 5-10 minutes before finally concluding that River Oyster Bar is probably the best spot for it, with Altamare not far behind. After that, nothing really fits that category

Haven't been back to Area 31 since Critchley left but it would fit the bill too.

True. My buddy lives at the Epic so that one was out of the question.

I like River Oster and go for happy hour (M-Sat till 7) pretty frequently. As others have said, the raw oysters are half off and they always have 8-10 varieties and are very fresh. I can't bring myself to go at non-happy hour times knowing that it is costing twice as much as what I can get it for if I just get there before 7. Strangely, I have often preferred the non-seafood items on the dinner menu to the fish dishes. Their chocolate mousse cake/pie is very good too.
