Family friendly downtown restos, prefer Ethnic food
Hi there! A group of us, different ages, some vegetarian, would like to get together for dinner tomorrow night in downtown--recently overloaded on Mexican so would like to branch out to try other cuisines. Will have 2 yr old w/us. I'm braindead--can't think of a good place that would fit the bill--want great food and a place where a 2 yr old is accepted, and has at least a decent ambiance as we're celebrating a birthday. Any suggestions?

A two year old, eh?
Hmm, if this fantastic weather holds out, why not eat outside at G'raj Mahal?
It's next to Austin Bike Zoo to fascinate the young'uns. It's got plenty of veggie options, a unique ambiance, and the food is OK.
You might be able to bring your own wine - not so sure about that, but it's worth asking.›1 Reply -
Unfortunately I don't think you're going to find a whole ton of options. One of my only real gripes with living in the downtown / South Congress area: huge lack of good ethnic food.
I think Thai Passion is just OK, really not worth it in my opinion. Then you've got your high price but average quality sushi bars. Aside from that, I love The Clay Pit. Great food, family friendly. If anybody else has any good ideas for this one, I'd love to hear!

I'm going to vote for Aster's Ethiopian. Although he ambiance isn't anything to write home about, it is veggie and kid friendly, and so very far from Tex Mex.
