Three great reviews

We had a great food weekend.

First, there was breakfast on Sat. We have a favorite spot in Broomall on West Chester Pike. I never recommended it before because it's not "pretty". In fact, we had been passing by for ten years and never thought to try it. One day, tired of the same old, same old, we went in. The prices are fantastic, the food is great, and the service is friendly. The same breakfast at the big shiny diner across the street is at least double the cost. And, the pancakes are the best around. It's called Jeans Lunchonette and it 's fabulous!

Second, we tried a new place on Sat. Well, it's not new, but it's new to us. Trying to avoid the Valentine overpriced special dinner menu madness, we figured Indian might be off the beaten path. So we tried Spice Indian Thai Bistro in Edgmont Square On Route 3 in Newtown Square. It was amazing! They did have the "special" menu I was trying to avoid, but it had a great selection (goat, lobster, lamb, vegetarian, etc.) and the prices were comparable to the regular menu. Service was excellent. We were trying to catch a movie, and told our server he could fire our apps and entrees at the same time. They were very attentive. When the owner/manager checked our table he was genuinely horrified that we had entrees and apps together. Cannot wait to go back!!!

Third - breakfast on Sun. Again, a favorite place that just gets better. Hymie's Deli on Montgomery Avenue in Marion. When we want something fun, we head to Hymie's. They have this pickle bar that we actually start craving the night before. Usually it's a toss up between the fish platter (amazing!) and the "Schmoozer Combo" (corned beef, pastrami, slaw, Russian, rye). DH has it like it is, and I customize mine. Skip the slaw and dressing, add swiss and sauerkraut. I can honestly say, this was the best sandwich I have ever eaten - a mountain of meat, tender, warm, juicy, perfect. We're always happy at Hymie's, and they just keep raising the bar.

  1. Thanks for the report. We've been looking for a good breakfast place near that area and will definitely give Jeanette's a try.

Just thought I'd mention that we enjoy Spice's weekend lunch. Not positive but I think it's only $12 or $13 and it's a nice all-you-can eat buffet of Indian/Thai food. An order of fresh naan arrives at your table about 5 minutes after you are seated. You can also order from the menu if someone doesnt want the brunch.

Yes, we saw the sign for the lunch buffet and are going this weekend. Forgot to mention we had the garlic naan and loved it. You'll love Jean's - there's parking in the back.
