Peterborough St restaurants returning in June, plus Speed's!

MC Slim JB Feb 14, 2011 05:56 AM

Per Universal Hub: http://www.universalhub.com/2011/looking-peterborough-street-restaurant-row-re-open

Thornton's Fenway Grille, Swish Shabu (Japanese hot pots), Fenway Phoenix Cafe (breakfast, soups and sandwiches), Rod Dee Thai, El Pelon. A "New York Italian pizzeria" is close to signing up, says the landlord, and strongly implies that Speed's will land there, too (keeping the Newmarket truck open).

Wonderful news!

Has the Fenway Rod Dee opened yet? It was closed today (possibly for the MLK holiday) but it looks ready for business.

Great to have El Pelon back. It was so packed around 1 PM that people were eating burritos at the outdoor picnic tables in the sub-freezing weather.

There's still a storefront available, so maybe Speed's can be convinced.

I was also wondering about this. I might try to stop by there tomorrow and will report back.

Fenway Rod Dee is still closed, unfortunately. It looks really nice, but there was no one in there. Hopefully soon!

Great news! Rod Dee is now open. It had looked thisclose since around Thanksgiving--thought I was going to lose my mind.

Is there any update on Speed's by Fenway?

Doesn't look good. I think it may have fallen through.

Yeah that is what I was afraid of. I know things can get delayed but there is no mention on his website either.

I asked Greg last time I was there and he said it was not going to happen.

Yeah, I was there recently and he said the same thing.

Anyone share my concern that easier access to speed's is exceedingly dangerous?

Yup, that was my first thought. Before it was a "special occasion/ only on weekends" place. This location will be within walking distance.

I wonder if Greg will keep it as simple as his current cart license restrictions demand (dogs and grilled pastrami), or will do a more ambitious menu once he has a full kitchen and refrigeration.

I've been assuming the latter. I have a bad feeling this is going to have an impact on the speeds dog itself somehow. Maybe the cart won't be around as often, maybe the thing will change, something.

I do know he has a catering business, too, so I wouldn't be surprised if there are some other offerings.

                  Terrific news !

I was whiling away the afternoon at Tasty Burger yesterday and, as a former resident of Peterborough Street, I marveled at the transformation this little nabe has undergone in the last few years.

I became a kid all over again at Tasty Burger. The burgers even smelled exactly like the chargrilled ones of my youth. Nice selection of adult beverages makes this a fastfood joint where one can linger. Will be interesting to see what becomes of it during Sox season, particularly with the private restrooms, yowsas. BTW, the vulgarity attached to this post is, well, hard to overlook and certainly should not be. I thought this place was family-friendly.

Not to mention the pool table - very kid friendly place.

Looks like some good options for game days. Way better than eating in the park. I've tried all the in park venues and frankly (no pun intended) none are very good. Best to eat before the game, then sit back and "enjoy", once inside the park.

Or for those of us who aren't members of the cult, for non-game days. Ah something for everyone. Someone will have to call a chowdown once they have all opened and settled in.
