Davisville Diner?

I'm very interested in this place though I haven't been yet. I think the signage at one point said Pancake House--somewhere in there. Very little about this place on the internet except one comment about some free coffee special... If anyone goes, please share!

  1. Was there this morning because I noticed they had Eggs and Onions on the menu.
Done right this is a huge favourite of mine.

The onions have to be caramelized almost to the point of looking burnt, a la Barney's on Queen (RIP) or the Mars on College of many years ago. Unfortunately, this dish disappointed as the onions were barely sweated and I am fairly certain the eggs were at best medium and not large.

They serve the usual variety of breakfast items, eggs, pancakes and waffles at relatively unattractive prices. With tax and tip bacon, 2 eggs, mediocre homefries, toast and coffee will set you back $14-15. The same thing done better up the street at "Good Bite" would be about $9 all in.

I am not optimistic about this place.

That is too bad! Hopefully they get better with time...

        Tried the burger today.
Faintly seasoned a bit dry and overwhelmed by too much bun.
A 3.5" burger on a 5.5" bun always looks lonely and adrift.

The place appears very clean and nicely decorated but shows little flair for what they put on the plate.

Is it just burger and breaky menu? (Your burger does not sound at all inspired....)

They will be introducing a dinner menu at some point, but for now it is a breakfast ,lunch, sandwich, diner knd of place without much distinction at slightly high prices.

Sounds like if they don't improve, they're going away soon.

Depends how deep the owner's pockets are.

They don't seem to be doing anything promotional in the area to build traffic and the prices are not likely to cause a stampede.

    2. Food was unremarkable. Burger was bland and grilled onions were incredibly greasy. I used 7 paper napkins sopping up the grease. Nice presentation including fresh tomato, onion and lettuce.
Two pancakes and a side of oil drenched bacon cost $10. I don't mind paying money for exceptional food, but the experience was disappointing.
The neighborhood would welcome a good diner; sadly, this isn't it.

And that is before tax and tip. Add a coffee and it is about $16 all in and for that you get "table syrup"
I guess the guy thinks he's clever because he can put that on a plate for about $1.20.

BTW letrell, was anyone else there?

        1. re: sumdumgoy

the restaurant was quite busy when we were there.

Finally went for first time, had breakfast. Not much variety in way of items, a bit pricey especially if you start adding extras. Have never seen a breakfast special not include the meat so you are looking at $9.00 for two eggs, bacon, potato and toast. Add $1.75 for coffee. Potatos seemed like they were prepared in morning and reheated in microwave, owner said no they are done on skillet but they were cold on outside and steaming in middle.....questionable. Sausages were just full of white dripping fat. Was happy to see a greasy spoon in neighborhood But with the prices and quality of food most likely won't go back.

Just when I think, "it's so close, how can I not try it at least once", I read another revolted post here and... yeah. I have 3 other places that are almost as close. So no reason to venture to this place (unless someone bizarrely reports something good to eat!).

      2. I've eaten breakfast and lunch here both a couple of times. Walked out in disgust at a revolting fish and chips lunch special, but then a boy can dream. Oh, the diners of New Jersey that I grew up eating in...nothing like that here.

Try Dans diner out in the east end for amazing burgers, another good all round diner, especially for breakfast is up the road from Davisville called Good Bite, just north of Eglinton. If you want fish and chips then try chippy's down on Queen, can't go wrong.
