Kid-friendly lunch - Times Square

We are bringing our granddaughter to see Mary Poppins and would like to go out for lunch first. What restaurants can you recommend that an 8 year old would enjoy, but NOT a chain restaurant? Times Square area would be great but not necessary. Thanks.
