Double Devon Cream in RDU area

Does this exist in any of the stores in the RDU area? Maybe I've got the product wrong, but I saw a cake that called for it and wanted to try and make it at some point. Thanks for the help.

  1. I'm in Charlotte but I've seen it at Harris Teeter with the British foods in the International isle. Comes in a little shelf-stable jar.

I'm think Whole Foods carries it too, but I'm not sure.

    1. Pretty sure I've seen it at Southern Season, and yes, even whole foods and the nicer HTs.

      1. I've seen it at Harris Teeter as well.

        1. I see it once in awhile. It's a smallish bottle, so easy to not notice. Adding to the list, I think I remember Earth Fare having it too.

If you give your grocery advance notice they should be able to order it for you. You may need to find out who the dept. buyer is.

          1. Try Parker & Otis in Durham. They carry several Euro butter and cream items.

              1. I was in Whole Foods yesterday and in their British Aisle (nyuck nyuck) but didn't see the item. I saw an item IN Devon Cream. I also didn't see it in the dairy section. No joy at HT either so far. I'll have to look again less I'm looking in the wrong places.

Which HT were you in? The Taj MaTeeter (the one out MLK) usually has tons of stuff like that, and sometimes the meadowmont one too. I think you often have to ask to find stuff like that, because they somehow find the oddest places to put things.

Also, I do hope you were looking in the dairy section?

                  1. re: LulusMom

Well I tried both places in the store adn the one I looked at is the newish one at the corner of 53 and 751 where Neo Japan is but I'll check the Taj Mateeter maybe tomorrow.

Not sure which WFM you were in, but they should have it in the cheese section, not the regular dairy case. I am pretty confident that at least Chapel Hill, Cary, and Raleigh have it--Durham might not, because of space issues.

                      1. re: sisterbeer

I was in Chapel Hill. Okay I'll check that area next time.

                2. First stop for specialty items like this should always be Southern Season. I swear I don't work there, I swear I don't get kick-backs, but I swear every time I need some completely random or obscure food item, they sell it. They definitely sell the Double Devon Cream.

                  1. re: Victus Populi

Yes I knew that Victus, but given my time and where I was going to be in general. I didn't get to it yet. Plus I assume that SS is going to be the most expensive out of the places that carry it. I could (and probably am) wrong. Though this product given its rarity may be about the same price regardless... yes I'm contradicting myself... it's because it's a friday and it's warm outside..

                  2. I want to hear about the cake once you make it - any cake with double devon cream should be incredible.

Well I did find it in SS and it is in the Cheese Section but almost behind the cheese counter on the refrigerated section.

Lulu here is the recipe I'll be gunning for once I've gathered all the parts

                      1. re: burgeoningfoodie

You'll also find it in the fancy cheese kiosk (near the deli) of the Harris Teeter on MLK in Chapel Hill. You can also find the butter that recipe calls for in that kiosk too. They even occasionally have it on sale.

Funny y'all are calling it the Taj MaTeeter - the first Teeter I ever went to back in VA would put the MLK one to shame ... the bakery and prepared foods sections were *incredible.*

Too Bad Publix doesn't reach this far. I was thinking the other day that I'm surprised that Meadowmont has a Teeter there and not a Whole Foods. Yeah I'm good on finding Euro style butter be it Plugra (ps?) or otherwise. The Devon Cream was hiding though I need to get another jar and I think I need to get the self rising cake flour. I'm not so great at baking that I would know the correct substitution to prevent me having to buy another product.

I grew up by what was called the social Safeway in DC, and it was pretty amazing, but the people watching was even better. I got interviewed by Maria Shriver there once and showed up on tv, although had no idea I would and only heard about it from friends.

I think most of the HTs around here aren't really up to salt.
