Beauford's Southern BBQ, Hillsborough NH

We were headed to Henniker to browse used bookstores so decided to try this new BBQ place. It's on your right as you approach the downtown after exiting Rt 202 (coming from the east. (24 Henniker St) It's mostly a take-out place with a limited menu but there's a few tables. We both got a half rack of ribs with cole slaw. The cole slaw, based on his mother's recipe, is about the best I've tasted (and I get compliments on mine). Wish I had asked to try the baked beans which are based on his grandmother's recipe so, sorry, I don't know whether they are New England style or spiced up southern style.

A half rack was plenty. The ribs are fairly meaty and very moist, well seasoned (with a bit of heat) with his dry rub. We didn't have to use any bbq sauce. You could taste the smoke, too.

Hillsborough is close to Pat's Peak ski area and New England college but, otherwise, there's not many reasons to go to Hillsborough. If you're out and about, there's also German John's Bakery and a sausage store. You might be passing through on your way to Keene from Concord but the new hwy bypasses the downtown area. If you don't know Beauford's is there, you'll miss it.

  1. Oh, I'm happy to hear this. I was worried when the Beauford's trailer disappeared from the Everett Arena parking lot in Concord. He knows good 'cue from bad, and that's more unusual than you might think. Unfortunately, I don't have much call to visit Hillsborough.

    1. How have I missed this? My folks live in Hillsborough, I'm there I'll the time. I'll definitely give it a try and report back!

      1. German John's Bakery is great, but do not put mustard on his pretzels!!!!

        He gets insulted!
